The SME Foundation for Children was created from the deepest place of love, healing, and hope.

In 2012, we lost our daughter, Sofia Mille Ann Echevarria, unexpectedly. It was a

life-altering moment—one that no parent can ever prepare for. We were incredibly

fortunate to have the support of our family, emotionally and financially, to help carry us

through that unimaginable time. But the experience opened our eyes to something

deeper: not every family has that same support when facing trauma or hardship.

Over the years, we have searched for ways to honor Sofia’s life—a life that, though short,

left a lasting impact on everyone she touched. The SME Foundation for Children is that tribute.

It is our way of ensuring her light continues to shine by bringing light to others.

Our foundation is dedicated to helping children in our local communities,

but we are not limited to any one cause. While some of our work may support families facing medical emergencies or loss, our broader mission is simple yet powerful:
